Alphabet Antics (1951)

Synopsis: An educational film in which various film clips are shown to demonstrate a word starting with each letter of the alphabet.

Featured Felines: The word for C is cat, of course, but what’s weird is the footage shown is of cats dressed in various outfits. A grey cat seems to be the one who shows up in the most outfits.

The narrator explains: “C is for cat, cute little cat, the cutest little kittens ever seen; A cat can wear a funny hat, a cat can dress up like a little queen. There’s Tom cats and Sally cats, pussy cats and alley cats, with silky tails and nice soft paws, there’s even a cat like Santa Claus.”

This short film was famously roasted on an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Synopsis: Charlie Chan (Sidney Toler) senses a murder when his friend suddenly dies on a flight from Honolulu to Treasure Island in the San Francisco Bay.

Kitty Cameo: In the course of his investigation, Charlie Chan approaches the home of a noted mystique known as Zodiac. As he approaches the mansion, a black cat is seen sitting on a windowsill with a man looking out from behind the curtains.

Later Charlie Chan approaches the house again. This time the black cat crosses his path and disappears.

Synopsis: Eddie (Jonathan Silverman) is a single father who has his hands full when he finds himself with a giant St. Bernard who seems destined to become a star.

During a movie audition, a rival animal wrangler named Sal (Stephen Tobolowsky) is trying to talk the director into using a cat instead of a dog as the lead. He holds a very large tabby cat, the size of which is commented upon by Patricia (Rhea Perlman)

Suddenly Beethoven disrupts the audition when he chases an iguana through a backdrop. Sal is startled and falls over, throwing the cat to one side.

The cat is shown landing on its feet some distance away. According to the American Humane Association, the cat was tossed gently onto stunt pads for the flying segment, but still seems to land rather hard on a wood floor in the last shot.

Synopsis: A mummy story rehash in which the mummified Aziru (Tony Curtis) comes back from the tomb to seek the lost love he previously stole from his deity of choice.

Kitty Cameo: In one scene Aziru, under the guise of Dr. Mohassid, presents a long-haired ginger tabby cat to Lord Maxton (Jacques Cohen), the man who is heading the plundering of the tomb.

Lord Maxton accepts the cat graciously although admits he is more of a dog person.

Dr. Mohassid leaves and Maxton and his men start to examine the cat in a most bizarre fashion, mainly just to get the cat’s paws up near Maxton’s face.

A quick shot shows the cat’s claws raking Maxton’s face. The man holding the cat drops him as Maxton’s face breaks out in horrible boils.

There are also a few seconds showing a cat mummy bursting from its wrappings in a museum, but this is sadly too brief.
