Purr Blur: In the beginning of the film a young Juan and his friends travel to Madrid. On the way they pass mile markers showing how much further there is to go. On the 300 km marker there is a black cat which is eating some kind of meat as they pass.

Miniature Dachshund Pups (1957)

Synopsis: Newsreel footage shows miniature dachshund pups being groomed and fed in a country inn.

Reality Cats: This footage was taken at a country inn in Dunsmore, Buckinghamshire, England where the proprietors, Ted and Georgina Fox, are walking their dachshunds. As they approach the front door of the inn, a tuxedo cat can be seen sitting in front.

The focus of the piece is of course on the dogs, especially two miniature dachshund pups named Samson and Delilah. But several shots of this same cat, plus one black cat (likely residents of the inn) are also shown, although no mention of them is made.

Synopsis: Charlie Chan (Sidney Toler) senses a murder when his friend suddenly dies on a flight from Honolulu to Treasure Island in the San Francisco Bay.

Kitty Cameo: In the course of his investigation, Charlie Chan approaches the home of a noted mystique known as Zodiac. As he approaches the mansion, a black cat is seen sitting on a windowsill with a man looking out from behind the curtains.

Later Charlie Chan approaches the house again. This time the black cat crosses his path and disappears.

Synopsis: We see a day in the life of Maisie, a secretary who sets out to buy a new hat.

Cartoon Cat: At the end of the short as Maisie proudly walks down the street displaying her crazy new hat, she passes a black cat on a windowsill. The cat responds with shock and a hiss, then jumps inside and slams the window shut, peering out nervously.

Synopsis: Unused and unissued newsreel footage of a cat show at Shepherd’s Bush, London.

Reality Cats: The newsreel begins with a couple of takes of two women, Irene Ashton and Diana Morrison, looking into a basket to find some Siamese kittens.

Several shots of the show cats are then seen. What’s interesting about this footage is it gives you an idea of how these segments were shot, with an interesting variety of sounds being made to get the cats to look up for the cameras.
