Synopsis: Ivy Lexton (Joan Fontaine) is a self-centered woman who would happily turn her back on both her husband (Richard Ney) and her lover (Patric Knowles) for a newer and richer man (Herbert Marshall).  But is she desperate enough to commit murder?

Purr Blur: The very first scene of the film finds Ivy walking down a street to see a fortune teller.  She doesn’t even notice a black cat which appears from between some gratings and crosses her path before running down the street and around the corner.
