English Title: My Afternoons with Margueritte
France 3 Cinéma
Starring:
 Gérard Depardieu, Gisèle Casadesus
Directed by: Jean Becker

Synopsis: Germain Chazes (Gérard Depardieu) is a kind but slow man who has been told all his life by his mother, his teachers and his friends that he is too dim to ever learn much.  Then he meets Margueritte (Gisèle Casadesus), an elderly woman who sees more in him than he has ever seen in himself.

Featured Feline: Germain owns a beautiful shorthaired cat named Jeremy who appears in a couple of notable scenes.  First is when Germain is working in his garden and talking to the cat, who is sitting on a nearby woodpile.

Later Margueritte gives Germain a dictionary.  He takes it home and looks at it with Jeremy on his dining table.  Jeremy sits patiently and listens as Germain tries looking up various words but is unsure how to spell them.

Germain then looks up the names of people he knows, but this also proves to be frustrating for him.

In the end Germain drops the book and throws his arms in the air in defeat, which scares Jeremy away.

Final Mewsings: Cats are good listeners, as long as you don’t speak too loudly.
