Cat Out of the Bag Alert!  This review contains some spoilers for this film!

Synopsis: Small town detective John Klute (Donald Sutherland) travels to New York in an effort to track down a missing businessman, bringing him into contact with aspiring actress and part-time call girl Bree Daniel (Jane Fonda) who may hold the clue to the man’s background.

Kitty Cameo: While it is implied that Bree has a cat (she is seen spooning food into a dish on the floor early on in her apartment but the cat does not come . . . oddly enough Bree licks the spoon as well, which has led to much speculation among movie fans if it was supposed to be cat food or tuna.  There is also box of kitty treats in the background of another scene) the cat doesn’t actually show up until late in the film.  Bree is in her apartment when Klute enters.  She is sitting on a cushion on the floor and cradling a calico cat in her arms.

She continues to hold and pet the cat as she talks to Klute.

In the final scene the cat is seen in a carrier as they are leaving the apartment for the last time.  Apparently Jane Fonda was the one who suggested that her character Bree have a cat.

Final Mewsings: What cat doesn’t show up when food is placed in its dish?
