Synopsis: Screen adaptation of the Thornton Wilder play which looks at the lives of two families, the Gibbs and their neighbors the Webbs, in the small New Hampshire town of Grover’s Corner.

Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): In the beginning of the film we see Howie the milkman (Stuart Erwin) delivering milk to the Gibbs’ household.  As he prepares the delivery at his milk cart, a small tabby cat climbs up into the window to look out.

When Mrs. Gibbs opens the door and talks to Howie as he pours out her milk, the adorable cat runs out to the milk man’s feet.

The cat rubs against the milkman’s legs and then gets to lap up a few drops of milk which have spilled.

When Howie walks away the cat follows.

The cat tags along as Howie walks over to the Webb household.  We see the cat start up the steps into the house but it is not seen actually going inside.

Later in the film Howie is once again making his rounds.  As he approaches the Gibbs’ home the cat is sitting on a low wall and meows as Howie approaches, jumping down once the milkman has passed.
