Synopsis: Charles Staggers (Charles Laughton) is a long-time street busker who encounters a young waif named Liberty (Vivien Leigh) and takes her under his wing. But when Liberty has a chance for success will she leave Charles behind and break his heart as well?

Kitty Cameo: When Charles first takes Liberty to his attic apartment in a London boarding house he gives her his bed and sleeps on a chair. The next morning a large black and white tuxedo cat appears outside his window and meows.

Awakened by the mews, Charles gets up and opens the window, petting the cat he calls Puss.

He then grabs Puss by the scruff to bring it inside for some breakfast.

Liberty wakes up soon afterwards and is surprised to see the cat on her bed.

Charles picks up the cat to take it downstairs and get it some of the milk which has been delivered. He walks out the door and sadly the cat is not seen again after that (although later Charles refers to it when he says he feeds it when no one else has the time.)
