Synopsis: James ‘Red’ Tyler (Dick Foran) is a boasting ex-racketeer and politician who thinks fireman have a cushy job.  He passes the fire fighter’s exam then irritates his old friend and rival Smokey (Robert Armstrong) who is his Captain.  He also sets out to win the heart of Marjorie (Ann Sheridan) whom he thinks Smokey is dating.

Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): When Red runs into Smokey he immediately begins chiding him for being a fireman.  To prove that the job is anything but soft, Smokey encourages Red to ride with the unit on a call when the fire alarm rings.  Arriving on the scene they find out the call was placed to rescue a kitten from an inaccessible ledge of a high rise apartment building.  Three firemen enter the building and spot the tiny kitten on the ledge below.

The men bring the kitten to Captain Smokey, who holds it up for a long and lovely close up as the kitten mews.
