Kitty Cameo: Near the beginning of the film John is in his dorm room which is filled with cactus and other plants.  He pulls out the metal box(es) where he stores his unsent love letters.  As he does this, a black cat jumps up on the desk beside him and lies down.

John then reads some of the letter to the cat, which meows occasionally in response.  The cat’s mews are very kitten-like.
