The Sunshine Boys (1975)

The Sunshine Boys DVD

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM)
Starring:
Walter Matthau, George Burns, Richard Benjamin
Directed by: Herbert Ross

Synopsis: Adapted from Neil Simon’s play.  Willy Clark (Walter Matthau) and Al Lewis (George Burns) were the top-billed vaudeville comedy act of their day.  When they are approached by Clark’s nephew (Richard Benjamin) to reunite for a television comedy special, Clark’s hatred for his former partner boils to the surface.

Purr Blur: When Clark’s nephew, Ben, arrives at the house of Al Lewis’ daughter Doris (Carol Arthur) to talk about the special, there is a cat sitting on a chair in the other room.

The cat walks into the hallway while Ben and Doris stand nearby talking.  Earlier in the film Clark comments on how he doesn’t have any pussycats in his apartment to care for, so this shows yet another way in which Clark and Lewis differ.

Final Mewsings: Like any good vaudeville performer, cats know how to upstage any actor on screen!
