Directed by: Jules Dassin

Synopsis: Based on an ancient Greek myth, Phaedra (Melina Mercouri) is the wife of shipping magnate Thanos (Raf Vallone) who spends much of his time trying to outwit his competitors, including his father-in-law.  Trouble stirs when he sends Phaedra to fetch Alexis (Anthony Perkins), his son by a previous marriage.  Alexis and Phaedra have a steamy affair which slowly turns into the inevitable Greek tragedy.

Purr Blur: Alexis purposefully avoids Phaedra in Greece.  In one scene he is walking down a staircase in the city as a black cat is coming up the stairs.  The cat pauses after Alexis passes and then follows him down the stairs.

In the next wide shot, the cat can still be seen sitting on the stairs in the background.

Final Mewsings: The real tragedy is that the cats of Greece don’t seem as prevelant on film as they are in real life.
