Cobb).  Terry starts to question the mob’s stranglehold on him when a fellow worker is killed and Terry falls for the man’s sister, Edie (Eva Marie Saint.)

Kitty Cameo: After talking with Terry for a while, Edie returns home and tells her father (John F. Hamilton) that she plans to stay and find out who killed her brother Joey.  While they are talking Edie sits on her bed and pets a cat.

Her father uses the cat as an example of her big heart, saying she brought home the litter and then kept the one with six toes and crossed eyes.

Purr Blur: At one point Terry goes to the bar where the mob usually meets and waits for Johnny Friendly to arrive.  Friendly’s banker (Barry Macollum) is sitting in the back room and gets up to try to warn his boss.  As he stands up you can just barely see a cat walk from the booth in the shadows.
