Directed by: Gregory La Cava

Synopsis: Ellie May Adams (Ginger Rogers) is the oldest daughter in a poor family whose reputation is shaky because her mother (Marjorie Rambeau) supports the family through prostitution while her college-graduated father (Miles Mander) battles the bottle.  But her world changes when she meets and falls in love with Ed Wallace (Joel McCrea), a hard-working burger joint and gas station attendant.  Unfortunately she lies about her family, which later puts their young marriage in danger.

Purr Blur: At the very beginning of the film we see the Adams’ abode, a shack in a shanty town.  Ellie’s little sister Honeybell (Joan Carroll) comes home with a couple of tamales she stole from one of the neighbors and which she shares with her grandmother (Queenie Vassar.)  There is a kitten sitting on a chair at the kitchen table when Honeybell walks in but she roughly pushes the kitten off the chair as she sits down.

Later we see the kitten sitting in a box upstage as the mother returns home.  Sadly the kitten is not seen in the film again.
