Synopsis: Former stunt plane pilot Charley Varrick (Walter Matthau) pulls off a brazen robbery at a small bank in New Mexico with the help of his accomplices. The robbery goes poorly with fatalities on both sides, but the robbers are in for even more trouble when they realize the large amount they ultimately stole belongs to the mafia.
Purr Blur: When Reno mafia bigwig Maynard Boyle (John Vernon) arrives at the bank in Tres Cruces, New Mexico, he wants to talk to the manager. A children’s playset is in front of the bank and a little girl sitting on the swing asks Boyle to push her. She is holding a small orange and white kitten on her lap. Boyle asks her name, which she says is Polly, and the cat’s name, which she answers is Sam. He pushes her in the swing a little bit as the investigator, Mr. Garfinkle (Norman Fell) gives him the brush off.
