On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969)

On Her Majesty's Secret Service DVD

United Artists Corporation
Starring:
George Lazenby, Diana Rigg, Telly Savalas
Directed by: Peter Hunt

Synopsis: James Bond (George Lazenby) is on the trail of Ernst Stavro Blofeld (Telly Savalas) again, tracking him courtesy of the father of the beautiful Countess Tracy (Diana Rigg) to a Swiss mountain retreat where Bond may very well meet his end on the slopes.  Can Blofield’s latest scheme to blackmail the world be stopped in time?

Cinema Cat: Despite having apparently lost his treasured pet white cat in the exploding volcano in You Only Live Twice (he didn’t take the cat with him when he escaped, at least), Blofeld is seen once again petting an white Turkish Angora, albeit only briefly in this outing.  Telly Savalas was the second actor to play Blofield (after Donald Pleasance in the aforementioned film.)  Sadly the cat doesn’t fare much better in this film than before, as once again Blofield tosses his feline companion aside at the first sign of trouble.  Blofeld flees the compound sans cat and the building is blown up.  It’s doubtful the cat escaped before the blast.

Purr Blur: In a montage sequence set to the movie’s theme, Bond and Tracy are seen walking through a garden.  She is carrying a black cat, which she sets down on the edge of a fountain and pets.  James Bond also leans down to pet the cat.

Final Mewsings: For loving cats so much, Blofeld sure seems to find them expendable.
