Directed by: Karel Reisz

Synopsis: The screenplay for this film was adapted by Alan Sillitoe from his own novel.  Arthur Seaton (Albert Finney) is a Nottingham factory worker and an angry young man, frustrated with the working class system which seems to keep him down and fighting back by living it up on the weekends.  He carries on a clandestine affair with Brenda (Rachel Roberts), the wife of one of his co-workers, yet when he meets a lovely young girl named Doreen (Shirley Anne Field) he finds himself contemplating the one thing he never thought he’d consider . . . marriage.

Kitty Cameo: In one scene, Arthur is working at the lathe machine when a break is called.  Something moving around his feet catches his attention and he looks down to see a small factory cat which has killed a rat.  He briefly pets the cat and then pushes it aside, picking up the rat (which he uses shortly afterwards in a practical joke.)

Final Mewsings: Factory cats live for the weekend when they kill rats in pubs instead.
