Cat Out of the Bag Alert!  This review contains some spoilers for this film!

Synopsis: John Reilly (Jeffrey Combs) inherits an Italian castle and brings his wife Susan (Barbara Crampton) and blind daughter Rebecca (Jessica Dollarhide) with him to assess the property in preparation to sell.  The family’s relationships are already strained due to an earlier devastating incident, so when scary noises and bizarre happenings begin to occur it preys upon their nerves.  And Rebecca insists there is someone else in the castle they don’t know about.

Featured Feline: When the film begins we see an elderly woman feeding an orange tabby cat in the castle.  The cat follows her down to a dungeon, where a terrible secret is being kept.  The woman dies shortly afterward, leaving the cat starving.  When the Reilly family moves in, Rebecca finds the cat, which then leads her to the dungeon area.

Kitty Carnage Warning! In the dungeon, the cat scurries into the cell which the elderly woman used to visit and goes inside through the food slot.  Rebecca calls to the cat, which doesn’t come.  After she leaves, the cat tries to leave the cell after her but is grabbed by the deformed resident within and dragged back through the slot.  Needless to say it doesn’t end well for the cat.

Director Stuart Gordon and his stock company of horror actors have made many terrific horror films featuring cats which we will be covering in the future.

Final Mewsings: Cats should not get too close to Castle Freaks.
