Fire Accidents – Trailer (1950)

British Pathé

Synopsis: Newsreel footage from the Ministry of Information warns of the dangers of fire around children.

Reality Cat: The film begins with a tiny tabby kitten playing with a ball of yarn. The narrator explains that the little kitten chases the ball because it is healthy and inquisitive. The comparison is then made with a child, who is also playing with a ball.

The short then takes a quick serious turn and shows children who have been victims of burns. The narrator urges families to “cage” their fire by putting heat sources behind meshes and screens. In the end the little boy is seen with the kitten sitting in front of a fire that has been safely screened. The boy gives the kitten a saucer of milk.
