Cat Out of the Bag Alert!  This review contains some spoilers for this film!

Synopsis: The fiery Angélique de Peyrac (Michèle Mercier) continues her adventures on the high seas as she looks for her husband Jeoffrey (Robert Hossein).

Cat Cattle Call: While on board Le Marquis d’Escrainville’s (Roger Pigaut) ship he asks Angelique if she has heard of the cats of Candia. She hasn’t but she soon finds out when he and his right-hand man Coriano (Bruno Dietrich) take her to a dungeon when she refuses to cooperate about being sold in a marketplace. They push her inside the cell and lock the door. She stands, looking concerned as cat meows and growls are heard.

Angelique screams when she realizes there are countless cats who have been released behind tiny doors all around the ceiling above her. The cats jumps down and start to attack. Most are real cats but a few fake cats are used for close ups of Angelique being attacked.

Kitty Carnage Warning!  We realize it is Angelique who is supposedly being attacked but the poor cats are being thrown around and abused so badly in this scene it’s hard to have much sympathy for the actress (or rather, the stunt person with the veil over their face). Eventually Coriano comes in and whips at the cats, which all run out of the cell in a frenzy.

Final Mewsings: Ever notice how cats who are supposed to be attacking someone on screen look like they’d rather do anything but?
