Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: James Leeds (William Hurt) teaches vocalization skills to deaf children and wants to teach Sarah Norman (Marlee Matlin), the school’s deaf custodian who refuses his help despite the pair falling in love.
Featured Feline: James owns an orange tabby cat which is seen several times in the film. First when James is setting up his stereo system he plays Bach. He walks over to the cat as he listens to the music.
In another scene, Sarah shows up on James’ doorstep and is sitting holding the cat. She stands up when James approaches.
Later, Sarah and James are seen sitting on James’ back porch. Sarah has the cat on her lap. She hands it over to James and goes inside.
Finally the cat is seen sitting at James’ screen door as if looking for Sarah to come.
Final Mewsings: Cats can live in a world of both sound and silence.
