Cat Out of the Bag Alert!  This review contains spoilers for this film!

Synopsis: Joe Nast (Jake Gyllenhaal) continues living with the parents of his murdered fiancée when he meets and falls in love with Bertie Knox (Ellen Pompeo), a part-time post office worker and bar manager.

Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): When Joe first arrives at the post office he is walking Nixon, the family’s dog. A cat is sitting on the counter when they enter.

The cat, whose name is Fay Ray, looks down at Nixon, who cowers.

Fay Ray suddenly jumps on Nixon’s back, sending the dog into a panic and jerking Joe around by the lead. A cat puppet was used for the overhead shot of Nixon spinning with the cat on his back.

Bertie then appears from the back and tries to call the cat off. She finally jumps over the counter and picks the cat up.

Bertie puts Fay Ray on the counter.

Fay Ray is seen again briefly in the back of the post office in the mail basket which Bertie is carrying.

Spoiler alert reminder!  At the end of the film, Joe and Bertie are driving out of town together. In the back seat Fay Ray is seated, staring at Nixon, who looks extremely apprehensive.

Fay Ray was played by cat actors Percy, Slick and Holly.

Final Mewsings: Not all cats are afraid of dogs.
