Synopsis: A dramatized story of Irish politician Charles Stewart Parnell (Clark Gable) whose fight for Home Rule is threatened by an affair with Katie, a married woman (Myrna Loy).
Kitty Cameo: Halfway through the film Katie brings Charles home with her to care for him while he is ill. She explains this to her Aunt Ben (Edna May Oliver), explaining that he is waiting down in the hall. When Katie steps away, Aunt Ben looks down at Charles, who is sitting with a cat in his lap.
Aunt Ben excuses herself from coming down, since she is in her night clothes, then observes that he has Erasmus to keep him company. Erasmus is, of course, the cat.
Charles sits down again but moments later Katie’s flighty sister Clara (Billie Burke) asks what’s going on and looks down to see Mr. Parnell, who stands upon seeing her while still holding the cat. She, too, is in her nightclothes and scurries off in offense.
Parnell sits down and pets the cat, stating, “Well, Erasmus, we seem to be causing a sensation.”
Katie appears and Parnell sets Erasmus down on the floor. The cat then walks away and is not seen again.
Final Mewsings: Cats know how to cozy up to important men.
